I originally purchased a smaller one of these about 6-7 years ago for a 15" laptop. It has lasted extremely well. So I bought this one for nephew who is in college and has a 17" Dell and it fits perfectly! It's a good bag for him and school because he breaks thing - ALLOT! It's also good for him because for the price he can afford to replace it if lost or stolen. Not designed for air travel though, so remember this case is padded not "armored". So subjecting it to the brutality of overhead storage (and other passengers) or baggage check-in is not highly recommended.
The material used appears to be sturdy enough and the zippers, handle, and stitching are of excellent quality for the price. I expect it will outlive the laptop it carries. It's rain proof; which means it will tolerate about as much rain as you will. So, in a blowing rain storm when you're getting a little soggy under your umbrella, it'll do fine over your shoulder.

Conclusion - He came and picked it up before leaving to college and was very grateful as he had been using his old high school bag to carry his laptop. He since emailed me that the laptop survived falling out the back of a car go down the road. I didn't ask how that happened because that's for my brother to ask about.
